AWSI Musings: Fearless Girl Symbol of Empowerment Stays…

We introduced the “SNapkin” concept in this post. Here’s another to peruse and ponder.  Enjoy!—The Gang

Yes, this is a SNapkin. We thought the artist’s quote was so good we didn’t want to muck with the napkin. Plus, that AP story had another notable, quotable, ponderable:

Here it is in context:

David Levi Strauss of Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts, known for his writings about the impact of art on society and politics, says he is excited by the dynamics the girl statue has brought to the space and says the overall meaning has shifted.

“The girl has changed the meaning of the bull forever,” he says. “With public art like this, you never know what’s going to happen; it’s a Rorschach test onto which people are projecting their own opinions and feelings.”

Good point.

AWSI, many have gravitated to this showdown as a symbol of empowerment. We also know that it takes a ton of courage and a supportive environment to get to a point where one feels ready to stare down a bull (any ol’ bull). That’s a topic for another day. For now, just ponder your Rorschach reaction and let us know your thoughts.

And The Enchanted Jukebox Sez…

You probably figured out by now that our Enchanted Jukebox channels its inner R2 from time to time. The song and music video selected fit the empowerment theme for sure.

Enjoy!
