He Said That?

Leading up to  Sunday night’s Academy Awards show, the San Francisco Chronicle ran a “who said that?” quiz.

Looks like our Frankie was the answer to the second one in the quiz.

We’ve been trying to track him down for more info on the context of that quote. Google keeps pointing to the 8th Academy awards ceremony which he hosted in 1936 (for the year 1935).  It was his first year serving as president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences.

He’s on the left.

He served from 1935 to 1939, which also happened to be a period of time when he cranked out a lot of great films.

  • Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936)
  • Lost Horizon (1937)
  • You Can’t Take It With You (1938)
  • Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

Along with the quote, we also wanted to get his thoughts on how the awarding of Oscars has changed through the years (this is the 86th year), but we think he’s found his way to LA to watch in-person.  Oh well.  We’ll hold that one for a future Sunday session.
