What We’re Reading – the 0515 Edition

Time to give an update on what books we’re cycling through. We made some really good discoveries which make us smile throughout the day — a knowing smile.

What's stimulating our imagination...

With the release of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, we’ve been on a journey of discovery since we weren’t exposed to Stan Lee’s “The Avengers” comic book series.

Of course, the Joss Whedon connection (he directed the film) just helped to spur us on more. During our online research, we ended up reading about a graphic novel titled The Ultimates

That got us curious, so we pulled the trigger and ordered it from Amazon. What an interesting way to tell a story!
Plus, we were blown away to see Tony Stark quoting our Joey (Joseph Campbell).

We sense we’ll have a lot more to say about The Avengers, The Ultimates and other “The” discoveries. The graphic novel in book form is proving to be engaging so far.

We are continuing with Joss Whedon: The Biography on the Kindle. It was a download from a March email push. We love what we’re learning so far — the journey has taken us up to his time creating the television series, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer.

Fun times. One we recently added has a lousy title. In fact, we’re wondering if something got lost in translation. “Nausea” by Jean-Paul Sartre.

The French version.

In this context, the title “Nausea” is supposed to be a nickname for “existential anguish.” It is NOT physical malaise to the point of vomiting (most common interpretation).

The description of Sartre’s style — where we are experience the story through diary entries — is what made us interested in getting this into the queue. That’s a technique used for The Jedemi Chronicles.

We’ve got a lot of reading ahead on all fronts. Thanks for taking the time to see what we’ve been up to over the last few months in our “free” time.
