Updated Weekly! A recurring element of Jedemi —a companion to the napkins— is the Enchanted Jukebox which always seems to pick the right song at the right time. This post contains a roll-up of the songs appearing in the DragonBustR Reader. Enjoy!

DragonBustR Reader – 009: Maslow, Mack & Michael…

Sent 7 October 2016.
The Enchanted Jukebox reached way back and brought us some classic Michael Jackson — “Beat It.”

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin’ how funky strong is your fight
It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right

The video is awesome. The advice might just be (okay IS what Doc ordered) to get your mind “correct” for dealing with that silly dragon blocking you from being creative.

DragonBustR Reader – 008: Courage and Immersive Storytelling…

Sent 30 September 2016.

The Enchanted Jukebox had initially provided us with a song from the outstanding “Peaky Blinders” soundtrack. Then, late in the day, we made a discovery on our own:

David Bowie was a “huge fan” of the hit BBC2 drama based in 1920s Birmingham, and recorded some of his final music for the series before he died in January, saying: “More of that to come.”

In the fifth episode of the Season 3, “Lazarus” was the song playing in the “Tommy is recovering” scene.

DragonBustR Reader – 007: Ingenuity and The Adventurous…

Sent 23 September 2016. The Enchanted Jukebox has provided us with a song that seems to fit the notion of escaping (and crossing thresholds). Glenn Frey’s The Heat is On (from the Beverly Hills Cop movie soundtrack).

Lyrics

The heat is on, on the street
Inside your head, on every beat
And the beat’s so loud, deep inside
The pressure’s high, just to stay alive
‘Cause the heat is on…

DragonBustR Reader — 006: A Kurious Ponderable and Talkin’ ‘Bout Creation
Sent 16 September 2016. The Enchanted Jukebox has provided this one, “Creation” by the Stereo MCs. The chorus includes these lyrics:

…I’m talking about creation
I’m talking about relations
I’m talking about creation
We need some combination…

DragonBustR Reader — 005: The Familiar in an unfamiliar context…
Sent 9 September 2016. The Jukebox found a clip of Ewan (Obi-Wan Kenobi) McGregor doing a sensational rendition of Elton John’s “Your Song.”

Note: the link from the original newsletter got pulled off YouTube. This one should work.

DragonBustR Reader — 004: Pre-Holiday Greetings and the 3-Minute Drill…
Sent 2 September 2016. Talked about songs with a 3-minute run-time. This one was pulled from a NVC post appearing in March: Major Lazer & DJ Snake – Lean On.

Jedemi Newsletter #3: Chuck Jones on learning and the Ariadne thread…
Sent 26 August 2016. The word “Ariadne” looks a lot like Ariana Grande, which triggered one of her hits to play: ”Break Free.”

DragonBustR Reader – 002: St. Exupery, Mr. “I Heart NY” and Get Busy…
Sent 19 August 2016. This week, it’s “Busy Child” by Crystal Method. I guess I didn’t know

DragonBustR Reader — 001: Quote, A Ponderable, A Song:
Sent 12 August 2016. It’s time! Inspired by The Lion King.

Lyrics include:

It’s time
Ithabise [Celebrate]
And this is meant to be your day
Shine
Ithabise [Celebrate]
And in your heart you’ll know it’s time
Ithabise [Celebrate]
For you take your place

  1. We’ve been talking about getting my dad a jukebox for fathers day, and I think that it would be good for us to find some good songs to load it with! I like that you included songs from a few different eras to add to the jukebox, which I’m sure my dad would appreciate. We’ll have to take a look at some of his old music, as well as adding some of the hits on the radio today that he’s been listening to when we get the jukebox in! Thanks for the help!
